Our work is delicately striking the balance between careful planning and the serendipity of nature. Inherently, flowers are transient with no two stems being the same, and availability changing with the seasons. I like to be guided by the flowers and foliage's form and shape; I let each stem have it's own moment, with decisions made that cannot be predicted until I see the exact stems I am working with. The beauty of this is every piece I create is an original, a one-off, and a joyous coalescence of artistic expression and nature.
I am the owner and founder of Bureau Botany.
I have always had an inherent calling to be creative, and found a way to weave artistry in to whichever situation I found myself in. Whether it was my strong sense of style from a young age (discovering a soft toy farm house could fit on my head as a rather fantastic hat aged 3) or my creative response to biology homework (a collage made from newspapers showing the structure of a cell aged 12).
I went on to study Graphic Design at university, before beginning a career in fashion. It was a actually chance encounter with flowers whilst working as a visual display assistant at Harvey Nichols when the stars aligned and my love affair with floral design began.
My sense of design and artistic approach remains key to Bureau Botany, and is at the core of every project I take on.
